State Rep. Fred Atchley announced $100,000 in state funding was awarded to the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts by the Tennessee Arts Commission.
Area nonprofit organizations, schools, local governments and individuals across the state were given grants through the commission’s annual grant program to cultivate the arts for the benefit of all Tennesseans and their communities.
“Organizations that support arts and culture are vital to Tennessee and I’m excited we can help the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts continue its great work,” Atchley said. “Arrowmont provides a space for people to learn about the arts and build a sense of community. Thank you to the Tennessee Arts Commission for their support and congratulations to the local leaders who worked hard to make this happen.”
The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts has provided educational arts programming in the heart of Appalachia for more than a century, according to the school’s website. The school is home to five art galleries and hosts more than 200 creative experiences each year.
Tennessee’s nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $1.4 billion in annual economic activity and strengthens quality of life, economic vitality, tourism and arts learning for people of all ages.
The commission says they anticipate to award approximately 1,000 grants totaling up to $12.3 million in both rural and urban communities in all 95 counties throughout the next year.
